Refers to "Domain Name
Server" or sometimes "Domain Name Service" This is the computer that
provides the service that connects the person who types in
"http://www.yourcompany.com" with your computer files that make up your
webpage. |

This is the part of your
webpage that follows the http:// Some examples are
http://www.philcooper.com or http://www.microsoft.com
Generally these are in the form of yourcompanyname.com but can be virtually
anything you want--as long as it follows certain guidlines. It is generally

Provider |
Also abbreviated as ISP.This
title refers to the company that hosts the files that comprise a webpage.
Some examples are Advancenet and Soltec. These are two Champaign, Illinois
companies. They are responsible for maintaining the computer that your
webpage files are actually placed on. |

The organization that monitors
registrationm and ownership of domain names. |
| Java |
Another programming language
that allows for manipulation of graphics and text through graphics. |
| Mail Forms |
An example of CGI scripting. People can fill out comment
cards, product requests or give you information for mailing lists, all
through your webpage. |
| Server, Web |
Refers to the physical
computer that houses the files that comprise the webpage. This is the
computer that people who access a webpage actually connect to. |
| URL |
Stands for "Uniform Resource
Locator" and refers to the domain name in addition to the http:// before it.
For example: http://www.philcooper.com |
| Web Hosting |
Service provided by the
Internet Service Providers--their computers hold the actual webpage files
and respond to requests from other people (through their computers) for
access to these files. |
| Web Page |
Refers to the individual
documents that make up a website--for example this page of definitions is
one webpage. |
| Web Presence |
Usually consisting of only a
few webpages, a web presence gives people basic information on your
company--location, type of business, etc. |
| Web Site |
Refers to the complete group
of pages that customers can access when they access your URL. |
